One of the deepest desires of each of us is to have fellowship with some
other person or group of persons. Especially is this true of the Christian who
has left the sin of this world to walk with Christ in a newness of life. Each of
us want to be successful, to feel significant and have meaning in life. We want
our lives to count.
Surveys tell us that even Christian men are not satisfied with themselves.
They would like to change themselves and change the way they feel about
themselves. Many feel a deep sense of failure when they look at their pasts.
They are troubled with anxiety and hounded by feelings of depression, and even
fear of where their lives are headed. Remember, we are referring to Christians.
Membership in a dynamic church that is moving forward can provide the
spiritual direction needed to join God’s work in every area of our lives.
Calvary Evangelistic Center is a local church. However, to say it is only a
local church would be an understatement as this local church truly extends its
influence around the world. The member of Calvary Evangelistic Center can look
upon their membership with great pleasure and the satisfaction of knowing their
affiliation places them at the forefront of reaching into all the world, as well
as having an influence in Independence, Iowa and the surrounding area.
Because of the far reaching ministry and influence of this church, it is
desired that not one member of this body of believers take themselves or their
membership lightly. We must have God’s blessing and anointing. You should be a
member of a church like Calvary Evangelistic Center because…
IT IS A COMMANDMENT And let us consider one
another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of
ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another; and so
much the more, as we see the day approaching. Hebrews 10:24-25.
IT IS WORTHY OF YOUR LOVE Even as Christ also
loved the church, and gave Himself for it. Ephesians 5:25 The Lord Jesus Christ
demanded this emphasis when He said, But seek ye first the kingdom of God…
Matthew 6:33. If you love Christ Jesus you will love His fellowship upon the
earth.
IT IS THE PUBLIC ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF YOUR TESTIMONY
Ninety five out of 117 times the word “church” is mentioned in the New
Testament. It applies to the “local congregation”. One reference is found in
Acts 11:25-26, Then departed Barnabas to Tarsus, for to seek Saul: And when he
had found him he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole
year they assembled themselves with the church… It is through the church that
you best work for Christ. We are to ...occupy till...He returns. Luke 19:13.
CALLED FROM THE WORLD Persons seeking a place
of membership and service in the church will give clear testimony of being born
of the Spirit of God (John 3:5-9), and of having received or be earnestly
seeking the baptism with the Holy Ghost. (Acts 2:4-5). It is expected that
applicants follow the command to be baptized in water by immersion in the name
of the Father, and the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. (Matthew 28:19). Association
with the church will indicate a departure from the world. (II Corinthians
6:14-17, Romans 6:4). The Christian will continue to grow spiritually through
daily prayer, study of the Word of God, personal witnessing, and faithful
attendance at worship. He will partake of the sacraments, and faithfully support
the church with tithes and offerings. (Galatians 6:9-10, Malachi 3:10-11, I
Corinthians 16:2).
