INTRODUCTION The Holy Spirit breathed on holy men of old who wrote the Holy Bible to teach us how to be holy so that we can go to a holy heaven where holy angels are already worshipping a holy God. In the millennium there will be an actual highway called "the way of holiness". Even the pots, pans, and bridles of the horses will be inscribed with the words, "Holiness unto the Lord." Does is not seem reasonable that we should discover what holiness actually is? The subject of holiness is probably one of the most misunderstood subjects in the Bible. I am reminded Paul said in I Corinthians 12:1, Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant, yet this is another of the teachings of the Bible of which most people are ignorant! What is holiness? We are told in Hebrews 12:15, Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord. We read in I Peter 1:16, ...Be ye holy; for I am holy. But what is holiness? The word holy is mentioned in the Bible 596 times, holiness, 43 times, and yet most churches today are afraid of the word holiness. If you want to see the pastor of a local church get nervous, let a visiting speaker announce that the subject matter of his sermon is holiness. Entire denominations were once pleased to be referred to as "holiness denominations" or "holiness movements". If it is true that we are commanded to be holy, and we cannot see the Lord without holiness, it seems to me that we should at least find out to what these terms are referring. As you read the following chapters, please keep in mind that just because a church or denomination or movement has the word holiness in its official title does not necessarily mean that it is truly holy. Do you really want to please God and have His blessing? That is exactly why this book has been written. In Him, Copyright © 1986 by William F.
